"THE ENERGY OF COLOR" - Original works by Aleta Pippin

Just as music can create a physical response, color also has that quality. That is the premise of "The Energy of Color", an art show and sale for Santa Fe artist Aleta Pippin at The Howell Gallery on Thursday, March 24th.

Pippin's work is about experimentation and process. She delights in her layering technique - thin glazes of color upon thin glazes of color - always with the goal of visual depth and texture, and energetic, warm, vibrant color. She strives for interest in surface texture as well as for depth and light by using various media to achieve her desired affect. Her work is a spontaneous interaction with color and the music playing in the background of her Santa Fe studio.

As a colorist, one would expect Pippin's paintings to be colorful. But when seen in person, the vibrancy and clarity of the color as well as the luminosity and depth is breathtaking. The work goes far beyond just "color" - it triggers an emotional impact in the viewer. It is that impact that Pippin strives for in her work - to infuse color and music so as to uplift the spirit of the viewer and evoke an acknowledgement of the amazing possibilities our future holds.

The opening reception for "The Energy of Color" is on Thursday, March 24th from 5pm to 7pm at The Howell Gallery. The artist will also be in the gallery on Saturday, March 26th from 10am to 2pm.

NEW ARTISTS AT THE HOWELL GALLERY

The Howell Gallery is pleased to annouce the addition of two new artists to the gallery, Andrew Peters and George Goetz.

Peters, a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, is a plein air painter who roams the intermountain west painting in his modified trailer/studio. This allows him to be near his subjects for as long as needed to create his wonderful works. Peters works can be seen in the 2010 Prix de West Invitational Exhibit at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum as well as at the 2010 Western Visions Miniature and More Show to be held this September at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Goetz, a native Oklahoman, is the son of prominent Oklahoma artists Richard & Edith Goetz, George is currently producing landscapes and still life paintings from his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
