Artist Biography
Ginger
Myers was born in Peoria, Illinois and now lives in
Oklahoma City. She recieved her degree from the University
of Central Oklahoma. Art has always been about living
an ordinary life in an extraordinary way. Ginger comments,
"Art is about living life creatively." She
finds many of her inspirations for making art in the
observation of nature. The diversity of people she
comes into contact with everyday, also plays into
the thematic subjects of her artwork.
Ginger has taught high school and
elementary art in the public schools for eighteen
years. She believe that every child is an artist.
She credits the students for the opportunity of helping
to develop her artwork by experiencing their display
of creativity.
Originally, Ginger was attracted to
painting and printmaking at the University of Central
Oklahoma. Her experience with this media is seen in
her textural detail imprinted on the clay and the
painterly application of glazes. Years of experience,
exploration, and experimentation have given her the
technical expertise to be free and spontaneous with
clay. Ginger works in hand building which can be functional
in form, but sculptural. Ginger states, "the
sculptural piece when in the process of construction
is like a dance of the heart. There is a whole playful
interaction with the Spirit of the clay and myself."
She enjoys working in high fire stoneware and low
fire majolica. Majolica with its wonderful essence
of color and surface luminosity is essentially "painters
pottery".
Ginger works in the studio at Paseo
Pottery in Oklahoma. She is a member of the NAEA and
Oklahoma Arts Coalition. She has exhibited at the
Kirkpatrick Galleries at The Omniplex.
