Artist Biography
Kara
Lee Merrell, a native Oklahoma artist, considers herself
not only a painter in the realist tradition inspired
by the Old Masters and American Impressionists but
also a contemporary colorist. She loves painting in
"chiaroscuro", the style of Rembrandt, using
the elements of light and shadows to catch the viewer's
eye. As a contemporary colorist, she emphasizes the
beautiful hues in each of her paintings.
Kara Lee places herself in the position
of perpetual student with an attitude of staying open
to learning and change. Some of her most influential
teachers she has had the privilege of studying with
are notable artists David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw,
Gay Faulkenberry and Scott Burdick.
In just a few short years, she has
achieved much recognition and has participated in
National Art Contests and won several awards in Juried
Shows. She has been in the Gilcrease Museum Miniature
Show from 2000 to 2006.
