Artist Biography
Janice Cobb is a native of Fort Smith, Arkansas. She has lived in Tulsa since 1972, with the exception of four years in California. Her original career was interior design. Studies in design school in Chicago, including color theory, history, composition and design, contribute to her work.

For the past eighteen years, she has studied with artists including Ken Auster, C.W. Mundy, John Encinias, Louise Grayson, AnnTempleton, Xiang Zhang, Virginia Rodecker Jarboe and George Kountoupis. Studying the paintings of the great nineteenth and twentieth century impressionists in books, galleries and museums, haas also been an integral part of her education.

Janice says about her work, "My work is a combination of realism and impressionism-real enough to let the viewer identify with the subject, but loose enough to allow him to interpret it in his own way. Clear, bright color is what draws me to a subject, as well as the mood set by a sharp contrast in light. All my paintings are from life or my own photos and try to capture my emotional response to the subject."

Janice Cobb's work has been exhibited in Tulsa's Mayfest Invitational Gallery, First Priority Bank and in the Gilcrease Museum's "American Art in Miniature" show.
