He was a high school band director and public school administrator before becoming a full-time artist. Don has been a guest artist in the National Academy of Western Art exhibition at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. He has done several commissions, including an outdoor piece, "Freedom", at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico. He is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and the Oklahoma Sculpture Society. Don's work is being shown in galleries across the United States. His pieces are in public and private collections in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
